Wow what a last 7 days I've had. From having too much wine whilst visiting friends last weekend, giving blood, playing football, squash, yoga doing 2 bike rides (one of which was a 30mile race on saturday) to finding out I had the chance to run the kielder marathon 48 hours before the event then running it in 4hr33!
I'm still trying to make sense of it all and gather my thoughts. If I'm honest I didn't give a second thought to running a marathon with a day notice with only two 4 mile runs under my belt since the great north run last year. Why was this: self belief/stupidity/arrogance/all of the above? Hopefully I'll have some sort of answer before my next blog entry where I'll try and bring things together.
For now I'm concentrating on refueling (curry/half a pizza last night, fish and chips just dispatched tonight) and resting.
Matt

Last minute Kielder Marathon
It would seem that I am beginning my running training early. After spotting that I had set up a justgiving page for Killer Kielder (www.justgiving.com/killerkielderchallenge) to raise money for their charity, Calvert Trust Kielder kindly offered me a place. This probably isn't the most sensible thing I've ever done considering I haven't been training for a marathon and also took part in the Bike Place Oktoberfest MTB race today however I thought it would be a good opportunity to get to know the lakeside way a bit better and meet the guys from the Calvert Trust even if I do end up walking!

Killer Kielder information
A unique one day endurance adventure challenge!
How hard/far/fast can one man push himself when faced with the epic adventure challenge that Kielder Water & Forest Park has to offer?
What are the limits for an ordinary guy who does the occasional mountain bike race, an odd bit of running and is certainly no master kayaker?!
This is the question that will be answered on 3rd September 2011. I will be supporting the Calvert Trust by completing this challenge.
Schedule:
• 6.30am- race the Montane Kielder100 in the forests of Kielder
• 6.30pm?? – Kayak the length of Kielder Water
• 8.00pm?? – Run the Lakeside Way
• 1-2am completion?
